DER SCHATZENSCHNURRBARTTAG, a celebration of the mustache of David Schatz, December 1, IS COMING!

David Schatz is now in his FORTY-SEVENTH year of teaching at New College. As the college celebrates its 50^th anniversary, we can also celebrate David as a living connection almost all the way back to the founding. David can remember missing paychecks from when the earliest years, when the college was a private institution in rocky financial shape.

In fact, I think he’s still a little pissed about it.

This year we celebrate the wisdom of the founders of New College, who, fifty years ago, had a vision of certain kind of school and community which we now enjoy.

I too have a vision!

A vision of a campus FILLED with CHEESY MUSTACHES!

Will you join me in making this vision reality?

I encourage students, faculty, staff, and alums to have a mustache on December 1, real or fake, and to email a photo to the addresses I’ve set up for this purpose: schatzstache1 or schatzstache2 at gmail.com.

I especially want to encourage you all to consider donating money to All Faiths’ Food Bank in honor of David Schatz. Send me a pledge of a certain amount per mustache, and a maximum amount to donate if you’d like, I’ll calculate what you owe after Der Schatzenschnurrbarttag is over and then you can make an online donation.
