A DAY OF CELEBRATION OF THE MUSTACHE OF DAVID SCHATZ!

DECEMBER 1, 2010!

Dear Friends:

After 46 and a half years of teaching at New College in its various incarnations, Professor of Russian language and literature David Schatz will retire at the end of this semester. Professor Schatz’s kindness and generosity as a teacher, thinker, mentor, and friend will be celebrated in an event scheduled for December 3 at 3:30 by the bay behind Cook Hall.

HOWEVER! Should we not also heed the words of the ancient Russian proverb: “To honor a man with a mustache, one must be mustachioed oneself”?

LET US GROW MUSTACHES FOR CHARITY!

How to participate:

GROW A ‘STACHE

1. On December 1, BE IN POSSESSION OF A MUSTACHE. For those unable to grow a mustache, a fake mustache is also acceptable. But don’t just glue a piece of construction paper on your lip. Knitting, macrame, or harvested black panther fur is more in keeping with the solemnity of the occasion. NO, a beard is not a mustache! Shave your cheeks, dude.

2. Email a picture of your mustachioed self to schatzstache1@gmail.com or schatzstache2@gmail.com.

SPONSOR A ‘STACHE

3. How much can you pledge for each mustachioed member of the New College community sent to me on December 1? One cent? Five cents? Ten or twenty? ALL FUNDS RAISED WILL BE DONATED TO ALL FAITHS FOOD BANK, IN HONOR OF DAVID SCHATZ.

Send your pledge to me (schatzstache1@gmail.com). On December 2 I will let you know the official mustache-number and what you theoretically owe (although of course any donation is great).

At the website (allfaithsfoodbank.org) enter your donation, and in the field for “special instructions” put “In honor of David Schatz.” You will receive a receipt, and the food bank will report total donations to me.
